May and Jonas’ birthday

Jonas had a birthday and we tried to make it special with a delicious breakfast and some banners. Jasmine even made beignets!

Celebrating at cousins even though we wore masks. At least we got to see each other and be together!
A  new song by Darling!

During the quarantine, we started our school day by watching a clip from the Cincinnati Zoo. They did such a great job making fun videos to watch each day and this little porcupine stole mom's our hearts! (especially mom's) His name is Rico and he is SO CUTE!!!

The Primary was at it again, this time with an amazing scavenger hunt complete with a drone, treasure chest and cute handouts! So fun!

The Mother's Day festivities. Shayden gave me this cute little flower arrangement. When I asked him if it meant "you are a good mom" or you are good, mom" he said either way. Jasmine made me some yummy espumias! And we had a very delicious dinner at cousins. If only we had taken a picture of mom and the kids.

Finally the time came for school to end. Zuri with her two teachers, Senor Lopez and Mrs. Flores. She made them the cutest gifts too.
This is Taye wearing a sleeping bag to his online class.

There were a lot of outdoor projects to get done in the spring since we had more time than ever before. The kids all pitched in too, even Jasmine, although she is not pictured.

We tried to go on several picnics to enjoy the good weather. Sometimes there was a lot of people at the park and we just had to find an isolated spot to sit.

Then at the end of May a very sad thing happened. Jonas had been working on a broken tiller outside and a can of degreaser exploded in his hand causing pieces of metal to fly everywhere and tearing up his hand. He yelled and our next door neighbor Mike heard and ran over and assisted until the ambulance could get there. Zildy wasn't home and arrived just as Shayden was outside waiting for the ambulance. She then frantically followed the ambulance to the hospital, not knowing if he would lose part of his hand, or what would happen. Just as we were leaving Zildy asked Mike to call the bishop. Later we found out that the bishop had mass emailed everyone in the ward basically asking them to stop what they are doing and pray for Jonas. The many prayers must have caused a miracle because the doctors went from saying that he was going to be rushed into surgery right away, to saying that it needed minor stitches in the ER and would go home that night, all within the course of one hour! Miracles do happen and prayers are answered!

A few days later Jonas was feeling a bit better so we went on another nature walk.
Then, over Memorial Day weekend there was another death of an unarmed black man by police. His name was George Floyd. This time is sparked huge protests and riots in cities all over the country, even in Salt Lake.

April and Zildy’s birthday

One of Zildy's favorite things is a good prank. But ONLY on April Fool's Day. This year Jonas left his laptop open on Facebook, giving her the perfect opportnity. She had to think fast, and quickly changed his profile picture to this. Then she started posting on his wall, asking his friends to show him pictures of their cats, then dogs, etc. It was such a marvelous thing, and he was getting notifications for days!

Quarantine was still in full swing, but one day we decided we just had to see cousins. So we sat on their lawn and had a picnic without letting them know. It took them a while to notice, but after a while they all started running out! It was a fun outing and fun to see them after several weeks!

General Conference weekend was nice and peaceful. For once Zildy didn't have any gigs to juggle.
Zuri made this cute note for Brianna and a zoom call that we did with everyone.

A day in the life of online school for all three students.

Our neighbor Brooke made the kids' first masks. Time to start getting used to wearing them.
Shay and Blossom in identical positions.
Even though church was closed, the primary did such an excellent job of providing activities for the kids to do. Here is Zuri listening to a song by the puppets Vigor and Vim.

One day, our neighbor was giving away a piano and we jumped on the offer! We had been looking for a newer one. That same day we found a nice family to take our old piano and got help bringing in the new one. Shayden was elated!

We tried to go on several hikes or nature walks since there wasn't much more that we could do. It was definitely surreal to see the playground all roped off for safety.

Since we couldn't do our usual Easter festivities with cousins, we did a little Easter egg hunt at home.

Zildy made a delicious invention: Rellenito Pie! Yum!

We discovered a picture of Jasmine was being used for a dance company ad. She was famous now too!

More snuggles with a pink haired Blossom.

For Zildy and Mami Rosario's birthday, Jonas surprised us and had a tres leches cake made and invited them and also the Browns over for a picnic outside.

The second part of March

The second part of March did not go as smoothly. Schools were shut down and people were encouraged to not leave their homes unless absolutely necessary. Then on March 18th, there was a 5.7 magnitude earthquake in Magna which was felt all over the Salt Lake valley! It was pretty intense and scary and there were aftershocks for a couple weeks after that. One ironic thing happened at the Salt Lake Temple that was undergoing extensive renovations. The angel Moroni dropped his microphone causing the ultimate mic drop.

We tried to make the most of quarantine time. Here are a few of the things that we did to pass the time: puzzles, science experiments for school, crafts and making snowmen with a little bit of snow. We also made a list where we wrote one thing that we did every single day.

Darling was able to do one last performance that was streamed online. The cool thing is that cousins all over the country were able to tune in and watch them!

Taye and Zuri basically had a sleepover in the living room every single night.
Good thing the church had switched over to family centered learning, because we were no longer able to go to church and had to do all lessons at home.
Doing all school online had some challenges but overall went pretty well.
